This project for the Northeast Public Sewer District consolidated flows and eliminated several small, decentralized treatment facilities that required added labor and significant capital improvements to meet future regulations. The 5 MGD Saline Creek facility features a multi-channel oxidation ditch with biological nutrient reduction capabilities. The plant improvements also featured new clarifiers, RAS/WAS pumping, UV disinfection, SCADA system, a new laboratory and operations office.
Project challenges included construction of new facilities located adjacent to an elementary school and within an existing floodplain. Coordinating construction start/ stop times and major deliveries ensured the safety for all students and staff. Flash floods within the floodplain occurred frequently during the construction phase. To mitigate these impacts, materials and equipment were elevated and temporary berms were constructed to allow work to continue during these events.
