Goodwin Brothers Const. Co. contracted with Missouri Department of Transportation to build a new bridge over the Meramec River connecting St. Louis County to Arnold Missouri along US highway 67/Lemay Ferry Rd.
MODOT needed to replace the 75-year-old deteriorating bridge crossing the Meramec River. The new plate girder design bridge required 3 mid-river cofferdams, as well as 5 land bents and 2 abutments.
The project cost was $12 million and required 47,000 lf of H-Pile, 65,000 sf of sheet pile, 11,000 cy of substructure and structural deck concrete and 100,000 cy of imported roadway fills.
Specific challenges included difficult flooding conditions, an aggressive 18-month schedule which required overnight shifts for H-Pile and rebar installation, underwater concrete placement for cofferdams, implosion and removal of the existing bridge from the river.
