South Plant Intake Replacement

The Missouri American Water (MOAW) South Plant Intake project is a new pump station that will supply raw water from the Meramec River to MOAW’s South Plant in Sunset Hills, MO. The pump station sits right on the Meramec River and extends 45-feet below grade level and 10-feet below the bottom of the river. It rises 45-feet above grade, keeping the intake pumps well above flood levels.

11,000 square feet of sheet piling were installed to form a cofferdam in the Meramec River to allow for the construction of the pump station below river level. 3500 cubic yards of concrete are being poured and 160 tons of rebar installed to complete the new pump station. Six new, 70-foot long, 250 HP, vertical turbine pumps will be installed to pump the raw to the plant. Each pump is rated to pump at 6600 gallons per minute.
